Admission Policy (Graduate School of Regional Studies)

Philosophy and Objective

The Graduate School of Regional Studies aims to develop human resources who possess knowledge about the paradigms of society, human beings, and nature, and contribute to forming the foundation of local communities in harmony with nature by utilizing high-level expertise as well as practical and creative skills.

To obtain this objective, the Regional Policy Department purposes to foster human resources who can expertly delve into new paradigms of local society in harmony with nature, while broadly learning the fields of economics, administrative affairs, and science with regard to applications in social life and human culture.

Prospective students

With the above-mentioned philosophy and objectives, we expect students to be motivated and have the following intentions:

  1. Students should possess the motivation to explore paradigms of local communities, natural environments, and human society, to recognize fundamental problems and solve them from a comprehensive perspective.
  2. Students should intend to obtain an abundance of academic insights associated with complex viewpoints while pursuing highly specialized knowledge. In particular, our ideal images of a student are described below:
    • One who acquires further academic expertise based on accumulated knowledge and experience, and considers what contributions he or she can make to a community and to society
    • One who aims to serve as a cultural and governmental policymaker for a municipality, social welfare organization, chamber of commerce, and so forth
    • One who hopes to work as a researcher for a company or research institute conducting community surveys, or as a representative for planning and investigations
    • One who intends to work actively at an organization supporting community activities, such as urban development
    • One who aims to advance into a doctoral program or study abroad for research in order to acquire higher-level knowledge and expertise
    • One who seeks to contribute internationally for harmonious development and revitalization in various countries and regions

Basic Admission Policies

[General entrance examination (Category A)]
We determine pass or fail based on the total results from a written examination (foreign language, and specialized field) and an interview to assess expertise, motivation, and other aspects. For our grading system, please refer to the application guidelines.

[General entrance examination (Category B)]
We determine pass or fail based on the total results from a written examination (specialized field), and an interview to assess expertise, motivation, and other aspects. For our grading system, please refer to the application guidelines.

[Special entrance examination for working adults]
We determine pass or fail based on the total results from an essay composition and an interview to assess expertise, motivation, and other aspects (including an oral examination based on your report of reasons for applying and research proposal). For our grading system, please refer to the application guidelines.

[Special entrance examination for international students]
We determine pass or fail based on the total results from an essay composition and an interview to assess expertise, motivation, and other aspects (including an oral examination based on your report of reasons for applying and research proposal). For our grading system, please refer to the application guidelines.
