Philosophy and Objective

The Faculty of Regional Studies aims to develop the ability to comprehensively research various social and cultural issues with the keyword "region," based on fundamental academic skills in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Our purpose is fostering human resources who can contribute to the continuous revitalization of communities and formation of an affluent society, while exercising leadership.

Prospective Students

With our philosophy and objectives mentioned above, the Faculty of Regional Studies hopes for students to have the following key characteristics:

Three Elements of Academic Ability

The Faculty of Regional Studies emphasizes three primary elements of academic ability. We expect that students learn together to mutually complement one another by correlating the following elements: knowledge and skills; the ability to think, make judgements, and express oneself; and an attitude for taking the initiative to learn in cooperation with various people.

General Selection

General entrance examination - first term schedule

In order to assess basic academic ability required for learning at the Faculty of Regional Studies, applicants must take the National Center Test for University Admissions. To test individual academic performance, applicants sit for an examination in mathematics or the English language (select one), and, compose an essay. The academic performance test is an evaluation of skills achieved in high school in mathematics, or English. The essay is used to assess reading comprehension, logical thinking, the ability to express oneself, extent of interests, viewpoints, and other items. We recommend that you value all the classes you are taking in high school, that you study extensively, and have an abundance of reading experience.

General entrance examination - second term schedule

In order to assess the basic academic ability required for learning at the Faculty of Regional Studies, applicants must pass the National Center Test for University Admissions. Selection based on school recommendation

  • Selection based on school recommendation (I) without the National Center Test for University Admissions
     This admission selection is directed to those who are expected to complete a specialized course, or an integrated course of high school (including secondary school), or to graduate a high school department at a special needs school. Based on a recommendation letter, personal statement, and school reports, together with the results of writing an essay and an interview, we will comprehensively determine passing or failing admission by evaluating reading comprehension, logical thinking, the ability to express oneself, extent of interests, viewpoints, motivation for learning, problem awareness, and other items. We recommend that you value all the classes you are taking in high school, that you study extensively, and have an abundance of reading experience.
  • Selection based on school recommendation (II) with the National Center Test for University Admissions
     In order to assess the basic academic ability required for learning at the Faculty of Regional Studies, applicants must pass the National Center Test for University Admissions.      This selection process is directed toward employed adults who have experience in society and motivation for learning at a university. Based on application documents as well as the results of essay writing and an interview, we comprehensively determine passing or failing admission by evaluating reading comprehension, logical thinking, the ability to express oneself, extent of interests, viewpoints, motivation for learning, problem awareness, and other items.   • Selection of privately financed international students
     In order to assess the basic academic ability required for learning at the Faculty of Regional Studies, applicants must pass the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students. In addition, based on the results of writing an essay and an interview, we will comprehensively determine passing or failing admission by evaluating reading comprehension, logical thinking, the ability to express oneself, extent of interests, viewpoints, motivation for learning, problem awareness, and other items.   • Selection of returnees
     Based on application documents as well as the results of essay writing and an interview, we comprehensively determine passing or failing admission by evaluating reading comprehension, logical thinking, the ability to express oneself, extent of interests, viewpoints, motivation for learning, problem awareness, and other items. For the grading of results, please refer to the guide for entrant selection. We recommend that you value all the classes you are taking if enrolled in school, that you study extensively, and have an abundance of reading experience.

Examination for admission by transfer in the third year

This selection process is directed to those who have graduated from university or potential graduates, those who have graduated from junior college or technical college or potential graduates, and those who have been attending university for more than two years of a four-year or more study course and earned the required credits. Applicants must pass an English language test, a written essay, and an interview. Based on the test result, we will evaluate your English language ability required for learning at the Faculty of Regional Studies. By means of the written essay and interview, we comprehensively determine passing or failing admission by evaluating reading comprehension, logical thinking, the ability to express oneself, extent of interests, viewpoints, motivation for learning, problem awareness, and other items. Immediately after transferring in the third year, students will need to select a specific field of study seminar. Please decide a major field you wish to pursue in advance and prepare yourself for studying in that field.
